Hi Group,
I am having a lot of trouble sending out a newsletter to my customer base (300+ Contacts)
I have created very easily in D.H.E. an HTML newsletter and published it to our server. http://www.cubethree.co.uk/newsletter/20070514/newsletter1.htm
The problem lies with Outlook 2003 and possibly how the page has been created. I have two specific problems with Outlook. 1. The only way I can find to succesfully send this newsletter is to run IE7 and from the "Page" drop down choose "send page by email". I can not find anyway to do this from within Outlook 2000! 2. I also can not find a way to send this to multiple recipients and keep the destinations email private from other recipients. By that I mean that the recipient should only see their email address and not the other emails on the distribution list. Another but slightly smaller problem is that I get various formatting errors depending on what PC I view the email on, some pictures overlay the text and the text changes font from arial to Times New Roman! Any advise would be very much appreciated. Simon |

Been there done that.
Man html e-mail is a huge pain in the ....
The problem lies with the fact tha the e-mail programs every single one of them are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind on times as far as strict w3c compliance goes. So if you don't keep it very very very simple you will have the viewing problem in different mail clients.
Especially Outlook is a pain.
First of all the best idea is to get rid of all css. They will give you the most problems. Try using old fashioned html instead.
To keep the destinations secret you will have to use bcc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Carbon_Copy
I know I am not much help in this. In the end you can always try special software for producing html e-mail newsletters. It's outthere somewehere.

Cheers Martin.....
I will attempt to strip out as much as I can, problem comes is that I just publish from D.H.E. and only have limited experience with coding direct in say Notepad. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again. Simon |

I can only send succesfully the web page via IE7, surely this is wrong! I cannot get Outlook to send it and not treat it as an attachment. When I use IE7 to send, it sends all the embedded images, I want to just send the html and pull the images from the server! Wow I really struggling with this.....I thought this would be a piece of cake. How do I get Outlook 2003 to send just the html and for it to appear without losing all the formating?

Another point I have noticed is that if I use Bcc then the "TO:" email address is the same as the "FROM:" address. Not sure if spam filters are going to have a field day if the "TO:" email address is wrong! |

Maybe not the nicest way but have you tried to choose your HTML document as a background in the menu "options", the tab "new message"? Don't know if I translated it well, I (do not) use the dutch version. |

For Outlook Express try this:
- export your page - using Internet Explorer open the page and save it as .mht - rename the .mht in .eml - drag this file into outlook express
;-)

To get the images form the server you must have a full link.
So instead of this in the source code: images/picture.jpg
you will need this in the source: http://www.mysite.com/images/picture.jpg
I already said it is a huge pain in the....
Davide what you are saying is for Outlook Express not for Outlook.

Yes ;-) You can use D.H.E. from the command line forcing your pages to load images from an external site. |

Thanks guys for your help.
Davide, Could you just explain the "drag this file into Outlook Express"? I can drag it into drafts folder and forward it, but not sure what else I can do. I have been informed that Outlook and Outlook Exp are not really up to this job! can anybody recommend a dedicated HTML newsletter email sending programme? Regards Simon |
