I know this has been mentioned before here in the forum, but I cant seem to find the post or enough information to be of use.
I have a template I use for my pages that includes many graphics. I only want to export these images once rather than each time I export a page. The files become unmanagable...not just for me but it also increases the loading time for each page. How do I make each page use the same graphics and not export graphics labeled uniquely for each page?

There are two methods:
a- include the common parts of your pages into a (or more) .dhe file(s) and import this (those) dhe file(s) in all pages. In this case images have a unique name for all pages
b- give a name to each image by double clicking over the image and filling the "force this name" property.

Obviously I suggest you to use the method a ;-)

Thats what I'm trying to avoid...a "unique name" for every image each time its exported......normally prefaced with the page name. With that method my number of identical images multiplies each time I export a page. For example...if I have 20 image files in my template and I have 20 pages on my site that uses this same template......that becomes 400 unique images for the site with the same images having to be reloaded from page to page as someone makes their way through the site. In the past I edited the HTML files with search and replace to eliminate the page names, but obviously thats not the solution either.

? No, you have not understood...

When you import a .dhe file into another .dhe file (using the tool/Insert Dynamic HTML Editor File Object menu) Dynamic HTML Editor will export the images only a time for all the pages. This for Dynamic HTML Editor 2.x. I can't remember if this is valid for Dynamic HTML Editor 1.x

Let me give a better example. I have three .dhe files.... "1.template.dhe" "2.home.dhe" "3.content.dhe". The template contains all my common elements for all pages (graphics). # 2 and #3 are unique content. I have inserted the template.dhe into #2 and #3 and then exported them to .html. I look in the "/files" folder and I now have twice the number of template elements contained there. Then I tried inserting #2 into the template and did the same for #3 and exporting both resulting .dhe files to .html with the same results in the "/file" folder. To clarify further...I start with one image named footer.png that is part of the template.....now I have 2 images in my "/file" folder named "#2_footer.png" and "#3_footer.png".....I dont want two footer.png's in my "/file" folder, only one. Am I missing something thats obvious to everyone else?[2 ?:-|]

I've sent you a sample with 4 pages; a common header with some images, two pages and a common footer. The files directory contains only one copy of the header and footer images ;-)

OK...thanks....the problem seems that I was not exporting as a project and only single pages at a time, as I was experimenting to find a workable solution and really had not included them into a project.....I wont know for sure until I get home and try it on my own project but I have a feeling thats the answer. Sometimes the obvious escapes us ...thanks again.

I have to make some tests by I think that by using the Export Single File you shouldn't have any of the problems you've seen before; this because the export project do the same things as the export page function-. So stay connected and I'll give you an answer.
