I just downloaded Dynamic HTML Editor and am very excited to get using it. One thing I would like to see in a future release is support for multiple pages/resources grouped in a project (in a similar fashion to how Visual Basic creates project files), or the ability to store more than one page in the .Dynamic HTML Editor file. Both of these concepts have been implemented in other WYSIWYG editors.

For example, IMS SiteSpinner (a program that is similar to Dynamic HTML Editor, except for the price ) allows multiple pages to be included in its .ims file. If you look at the screenshot below you will see a dropdown list (with the word "index") near the center of the toolbar. This lets you choose which page to view and edit. All pages belonging to the same site are saved within one single file, and from what I can gather, all pages can be published at once if desired:

The sample site file included with the trial version download has multiple pages like this.

IBM WebSphere Homepage Builder includes a prject window that allow all of the pages for a site to be viewed as well as their relationships, etc. I'm not sure about the publishing aspects of the program. You can view screenshots and get some details here: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/hpbuilder/win/about/sitemanagement.html#site

A free trial of WebSphere Homepage Builder is available if you would like to check it out for ideas.

Another nice implementation of site management/multiple page management is done in WebCoder. This is a HTML editor, not WYSIWYG, so the implementation is somewhat different. but you can see the concept in this screenshot:

Also, this Flash presentation: http://www.tsware.net/software.php?gid=1# shows some of the nice features of their implementation, such as marking pages with a status such as complete, in development, needs updaqting, etc.

I was using Nvu (based on Mozilla Composer) until I found Dynamic HTML Editor at Snapfiles.com last week. it is so much nicer. I really the program and am looking forward to v2.0.

Oh yeah, is the ability to import existing HTML files into Dynamic HTML Editor being considered?

And lastly, does "Dynamic HTML Editor" stand for anything at all?

I've already seen and used Site Spinner and cloned some nice features that it has; I've also viewed and used Coffee Cup Visual Web Site Designer (very good program!), Actual Drawing and many others.

I've thinked to group more page into a single .dhe file but I've not already created this feature.
I've created a very simple project manager but I think I'll remake this before relase the next version.

Yes, I've already created this in Dynamic HTML Editor v.2.0; is one of the most requested feature.

>And lastly, does "Dynamic HTML Editor" stand for anything at all?
:-) Simply for Dav (I'm me) HTML Editor ;-) the same signature that you can view into each .dhe file if you open it by a binary editor.

Probably I'll release version 2.0 under shareware license but I think to create also a freeware version of it.

[2 ?:-|] This is very disappointing to me. From what I have read Version 2.0 will solve all of the problems that I have with using Dynamic HTML Editor. I can understand the reasoning behind the change to shareware, but I'm still disappointed. I hope I can afford to buy version 2.0. [2 H:.(] Do you have any idea about the price you will charge? Will the freeware version have any limitations? If so, what?

I am currently writing an article that I will be publishing online that is about running a home PC complete on freeware. Dynamic HTML Editor was going to be my recommended web editor. I hope you continue to release a freeware version so that I can recommend it in my article. Otherwise I'll probably recommend Nvu, WebDwarf, or Amaya - none of which I like nearly as much as Dynamic HTML Editor.

Also, check out Namo WebEditor for some other ideas to "borrow" for Dynamic HTML Editor.

I think that Dynamic HTML Editor 2.0 has some features that no other editors have;
I have spent two years for this program so I think it's right to change the license. I need also to publish it in many places as possible but for do this I have to pay some sites. So shareware license can help me in this.

The freeware version 2.0 of Dynamic HTML Editor will have minor features obvioulsy ;-)

jedisb I can perfetcly understand your point of view (and your disappoint).
I am a big supporter of free software and GPL/GNU licences, but this is not such a program.
I mean this is a single-person project (big project) and I don't think that Dav transform it in a Open Source project, 'cause the project will be spinned-off, branched and "denaturalized" (it is a Dav "creature", but maybe one day ...).

Free donation will not cover the work and publicity that Dav have in mind, so he must found another way to support his project.

Don't worry about the price, will be very low, and a (light) Free version will remain avaible.

Cheers, De.

Ciao Ciao De.

That is good to know. I've been checking out the prices of some of the other commercial editors and here is what I have found:

CoffeeCup VisualSite Designer - $49.00
SiteSpinner - $49.00
Actual Drawing - $59.00
Namo WebEditor Suite - $89.00 (but only $39 right now with rebate, through March 2005)

So I'm hoping that Dynamic HTML Editor will be $30 or less. Otherwise Namo looks very interesting as it includes a very robust site manager, tons of themes, script templates, a GIF animator, a SVG creation tool, wizards for adding media such as WMV and MP3, support for frames, etc.

But, I really like Dynamic HTML Editor and want to continue using it as I have already started building my site with it, so I will wait and see.

I guess this turned out not to be true, since 38.90 Euros equals $49.82 U.S. dollars. Therefore the price is equal to, not less than, most of the other editors I listed.

Also, in another thread s.dav mentioned that a "lite" freeware version of Dynamic HTML Editor 2.0 would be released. Is this still planned?

Sorry, I'm working for version 2.1 with Graphical Text, Drop Shadow, Glow, a crop tool and some other nice features.
Maybe in future I'll release a light version.
