I want to have some clouds as a background on my masterpage, and then want to have a "window" with my stuff in it. Like this:
http://www.whitecloudcigarettes.com/index.php/Products/Cirrus/flypage.tpl.html

How can I accomplish this?

You can make that window in DHE. Draw a grafical rectangle and make the transparancy about 65%. Then save this rectangle by richt-clicking on it choose "save object as > save picture".
Choose the background for your page and place the saved object with the picture tool. Now double-click on the picture and choose "only link (no Export)".
There you go!

Thanks for the reply Petran... I do have another question: do I still use a master page with a place holder? What I tried to do was make the place holder smaller with a background on the masterpage. But the place holder takes up the entire page!

Let me give your suggestion a try and I'll get back to you.

I suggest you to assign the "cloud" background to your page or master-page without using a picture; this because the picture will change the size of the page placeholder object

so:

1- Assign a background to your page or master-page (if you want the same for every page on your site)
2- Draw a Graphical Rectangle on your page (or master-page) and set its transparency ;-)

you're done!

Regards, Davide
