I have added an swf file to my page but I don't see a start and stop button. Isn't this automatically added? How can I get those to show?

I suppose this depends on the browser because the "old" method uses only standard HTML tags.
There are at least 2 extensions that will permit you to embed a flash video in a more modern way (check for example "Jquery Flash Plugin" or "SWFObject Flash Plugin")
