I almost always center my pages because I like that.

But it is possible when a page is centered that you put one element on the page for decoration that is aligned to the left side of the browser screen?

Actually if you center your page all internal elements will be centered

That's one solution.

Unfortunately that won't work when you need to tile a background.

When you make that element part of your background, at the left side, it should be on the left border of the browser.
