First, thanks for spending time on the forum helping out novices like me...
Have just got my hands on dhtml 4.0 for first time today and love the functionality that's built into the program...being able to do all those graphical editing things right inside the editor is fantastic.
The problem I have is that I have not been able to find any information on how best to go about building my own templates for use with the program...
I checked out the templates available for download from the site and also packaged with the program...and I should say well done to arov for designing one which is excellent and similar to what I want to use for my own site...at first I thought I would be able to edit the template...but parts of it refuse to allow me to select them so they can not be edited. However, other parts are simply editable in dhtml 4.0.
Now I am confused ... is it a combination of png image and dhtml 4.0 page saved as a master page which is referred to as the "template"?...or can it be a png made in an external graphics program...how do I insert the png graphic in the template if I have made it myself...what are the component parts of the template??
How do I achieve the transparent effects arov has with his overlaid boxes?... or is there a tutorial on building your own templates so I can just watch and learn and leave you guys alone?
thanks in advance |

Posted - 02 Oct 2008 : 09:23:20 Hello shazee, welcome to the forum
Every part of the template has been made using this program, no external programs have been used
In order to create a new template act as follows:
1- choose the template you want to modify ;-) 2- copy the entire folder of the template you like and paste it changing it's name 3- open the template project directly from the "ptemplates" directory (this folder is under the folder where you installed the program) 4- modify the template as you want 5- if you click "New Project" you'll see your new template ready to use ;-) |

Without downloading it- it looks like everything except the box with the welcome part is what is called the master page[master.dhe in the shared folder]
The master page is in the shared folder in the downloadeded template..You should be able to expand the shared folder>open the master.dhe and edit it
Each page/file will have something added to that masterpage where the empty box is.. like a contact form instead of the welcome text for a contact.dhe page or company info for a about us page..
You should read the help file-dhe is much easier to use to its fullest after you know how to use it..Compared to some help files it is not that bad at all to read..
If you want you can print out the pdf help file from here
