Posted - 07 Aug 2008 : 03:46:32 yes you can install it in a subfolder or just right into public_html---it is up to you.. If you want it in a folder you have to specify it during the install.. like./phpbb---but my suggestion is to install smf forum with tiny portal. SMF and phpbb are available in fantastico Tiny portal is a mod for smf. much better than just a forum.Download it to your computer and login to the smf admin and install it from there--choose a theme or keep the default and done.
I do not think Tinyportal is compatible with smf2. Smf 1.XX is installed in fantastico

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php
you could also try wordpress
http://wordpress.org/
Or my favorite cms [content management system]
www.modxcms.com
You need a webserver like wamp or a host with php/mysql[configured correctly] for all of them.
some similar stuff for phpbb. http://www.phpbb-seo.com/boards/phpbb-forum/discussions-vt942.html
My suggestion is smf+TP
check out http://opensourcecms.com/
on the left "cms demo menu"
click groupware/cms or light and look around..
these things are very easy to install, but using DHE to design themes is a little/lot bit tough.
