I was not really asking this for myself because what you're saying (Larger firms pay more) is the way that I've been working the last year.

I agree with Martin, a website is a very customizable thing, if it is composed by few static (.htm) pages you can ask few money but I suggest you to understand for which people or company you're making the site.
If it is a big company you should ask more ;-)
If it is for a single person you should ask less and so on... |

Trying to figure out your hour rating is found by most people who start up their busines as one of the more difficult issues. It depends on the costs you make for your busines and on the costs you make in your private life. Those costst added up divided by the expected number of clients should give you an average hour rate.
Obviously this is highly simplified.
Besides that a lot of webdesigners I know use different rates for different clients. Not everyone has a lot of money and those that do pay a bit more than those that don't.
